Rishton War Memorial, Lancashire.

Client: Hyndburn Borough Council
Design, Supply, Installation, Commissioning : LITE

Project Overview

As part of Hyndburn Borough Council’s regeneration of war memorials in the local area, Rishton War Memorial has undergone a vital upgrade through improvement, maintenance, and installation of feature lighting. Rishton War Memorial features a 6.7 metre cenotaph which commemorates the residents of Rishton who were killed or missing in World War I (185 names), World War II (23 names), and the Korea War (1 name).
The three-stepped base is surmounted by the pedestal and cenotaph. Hundreds of names are inscribed into the granite on the sides of the pedestal, and further steps lead up to the memorial area.
LITE Architectural was appointed to design, supply, install and commission the exterior lighting scheme for the project. LITE supplied six Blast Powercore Intellihue from ColorKinetics to illuminate the memorial – these versatile and customisable luminaires have intelligent white and colour changing lighting capabilities.
The cenotaph is now illuminated in various vibrant scenes, set to different colours to mark remembrance services and special awareness days. By having the ability to light the memorial, this offers respect and commemoration in a new and modern way, acting as a focal point for the people of Rishton to gather and pay their respects.
